“The project started probably right before COVID,” Ng shared with What Now Charleston when asked about when the idea for XO Brasserie came about. XO is set to share a “new fine dining twist on Szechuan and Cantonese cuisines.”
Herman Ng grew up in restaurants, he expressed to What Now, specifically his parent’s Cantonese restaurant. He started out as a dishwasher and moved up the chain, now ready to open a new restaurant of his own.
The goal of Ng’s brainchild is to bring a “next-gen” approach to Cantonese and Szechuan foods. The plan the restauranteur is after is to bring smaller portions and elevate the dishes with fresh, local ingredients.
What Now Charleston was told on Friday by Ng that he is currently working with an interior designer to work on the space and create a modern feel to the Szechuan and Cantonese style restaurant, while keeping tradition in sight.
Herman shared, “because these ethnic cuisines are not showcased as frequently in Charleston, I want to bring that to the area. Charleston is hungry for that.”
Editor’s Note: The article previously stated Herman Ng’s parents restaurant was Szechuan, it was Cantonese. The article previously had a spelling error. We regret these errors.
