Permits were filed yesterday for construction at 186 Concord St, the Waterfront Park-adjacent spot where Fleet Landing has served customers since 2004.
Those records indicate that several non-structural changes could be in store at the beloved restaurant. They include new interior finishes, lighting fixtures, new windows and doors and the installation of a new raw bar. The Lennon Construction Company has been contracted for the work, which is valued at about $30,000.
Fleet Landing has maintained its popularity throughout the years, and undergone several improvements during that time. After much speculation over the future of the restaurant when the building was sold to Lowe Enterprises in 2017, the restaurant has since been able to renew its lease until 2049, according to earlier reporting by Post and Courier.
Owned by Tradd and Weesie Newton, Fleet Landing serves seafood and brunch in a picturesque waterfront setting in downtown Charleston’s French Quarter. Its historic 1940s-era naval building inspires its name and adds to its charm.
It is not yet clear if the renovations will disrupt normal service or require temporary closure of the restaurant.
