The proposed restaurant would be on a 1.55-acre lot at the southeast intersection of Bowman Road and Hospital Drive, across from the Hollings Cancer Center at the entrance to the medical complex.
Plans show that the location will not have a drive-thru, and the entrance to the 42-space parking lot will be on Hospital Drive. A covered patio seating area will face the parking lot.
This new café will continue a trend of growth in the state for Starbucks, who currently has three other locations in the works in the lowcountry. Earlier this year, the chain announced plans to open 17,000 more stores worldwide by 2030. In 2021, South Carolina had just over 200 Starbucks stores, falling behind neighbors Georgia (with 379) and North Carolina (with 422.)
Before construction can begin, the design must be approved by the city. The Mount Pleasant Design Review Board will review plans for the new Starbucks at their December 6 meeting.
No timeline has been set for the opening of the new store.
