Chef Michael Roemhildt is planning to open three more “sushi corners” throughout the Myrtle Beach area this year. One will be inside of Salty Brews, slated to open this March in Cherry Grove. As for the other two, the 20-year-old chef has his eye on some locations but is still finalizing details. He opened his first sushi corner last year inside of the new Hwy 9 Grillhouse.

“Right now we’ll just be offering sushi, but in the near future we hope to add more items like seaweed salad, spring rolls and pasta dishes,” Roemhildt told What Now Charleston.
In 2022, Roemhildt started his catering business, Michael’s Kitchen, while attending culinary school at Horry Georgetown Technical College. Through Michael’s Kitchen, the chef offers an extensive menu of dishes like Lowcountry boils, dumplings, tacos, charcuterie, hors-d’oeuvres and, of course, sushi.
After gaining some traction, he decided to branch out and partner with local restaurants to open up his sushi corners, with the ultimate goal of one day owning his own space.
“I’ve always wanted to open my own restaurant, and I figured the sushi corners were the perfect way to start getting my name out there,” said Roemhildt.
For each of his sushi corners, Roemhildt provides all the equipment, food, plates, utensils, and hires employees as needed. Quite the savvy businessman, he essentially runs his own operation out of the larger restaurants he’s partnered with, while helping attract sushi lovers to eateries they might not normally frequent.
Sushi prices range from $9-$22.
