Southern Roots, a local restaurant known for its signature hickory smoked meats and classic Southern sides, is giving up its current North Charleston location in exchange for Ships Wheel Hard Cider’s former tasting room. According to Emily Mercavich, marketing director for Lucky 17 Restaurants, the barbecue joint should be open by the first week of March.

Right down the street from Southern Roots’ current North Charleston outpost, the new restaurant will feature weekly specials and updated branding. While the project is undergoing renovations the team will have a smoker rig set up outside for food sales with a limited menu.

“The new location will have a brand new smoker room, a banquet room for private parties with a full bar, and periodic bourbon tastings,” said Mercavich.
Customers are encouraged to visit the smokehouse’s West Ashley location on Savannah Highway in the meantime.
