Catrina’s Cantina will debut its first location in Summerville’s new One Nexton development at 801 Nexton Square Dr. The second site will be situated on Daniel Island at the new Gates at Point Hope development on Renaissance Lane.
While specifics about the eatery remain scarce, Yesenia Leon is leading these ventures. A seasoned restauranteur, Leon owns the La Hacienda brand of restaurants across South Carolina and Georgia, offering Mexican cuisine at nine locations. She also owns trendy eatery Dulce Churros Ice Cream + Cocktails, which will soon open its second location in the same One Nexton development that Catrina’s Cantina is coming to.
Both developments have been undergoing construction for several months now. What Now Charleston spoke briefly with Leon, who said that more information should be available soon.
UPDATE: This article originally stated that Antonio Ayala would oversee Catrina’s Cantina. Unfortunately, he has passed away, and his widow, Yesenia Leon, owns the restaurants. The article has been updated to reflect this information.
