Fatty’s Beer Works founder and CEO David “Fatty” McLain took to social media to share the news, stating that the brewery’s last day at 1436 Meeting St will be sometime at the end of September.
McLain attributed the closure of his eight-year-old Charleston brewery to “extraordinary economic times,” the need for more production space, and the challenging real estate market in the Charleston Brewery District.
However, this isn’t the end of the road for the beloved brewery. Fatty’s is actively seeking a new taproom location, though McLain hasn’t yet revealed where that might be.
In the meantime, McLain assured patrons that Fatty’s core beers—Lazy Hazy, High Style, Serape, Firm & Fast, and F Light—will continue to be brewed by a “reputable Charleston brewery” with greater production capacity.
“Our website and Instagram accounts will be updated regularly with new locations serving and selling the Fatty’s brands,” McLain said.
To bid farewell to its Meeting St location, Fatty’s will host a “giant” celebration next Friday through Sunday (9/6 – 9/8), featuring beer specials, food trucks, and live music.
“The Fatty’s team is so thankful for all the love and support shown to us for the past eight years and the light is still burning brightly for the future of Fatty’s Beer Works,” said McLain. “We cannot wait to share a few more pints with you at Fatty’s and a few more with you at our future location.”
