After temporarily closing its doors, a Johns Island distillery is gearing up to relaunch its tasting room with some exciting new changes.

In a series of recent Facebook updates, Charleston Distilling Company owners Stephen and Alison Heilman announced that they’ve secured construction permits and will begin renovations on the 3548 Meek’s Farm Rd space soon.
Though the specifics are under wraps for now, the tasting room has been closed since early June in preparation for the upgrades. The owners expressed their excitement about the renovations in an announcement post, stating:
We are still producing, but our tasting room is still temporarily closed. We are working on some exciting things (including getting all the permitting done )
Charleston Distilling Company prides itself on using locally sourced grains, supporting the community, and showcasing regional flavors. By overseeing every step of production—from grain to bottle—the Heilmans ensure the highest quality and craftsmanship in their spirits.
When open, the tasting room partnered with North Charleston’s Tobo Sushi to offer a diverse menu featuring sushi, chicken tenders, street tacos, quesadillas, and wings. A recent Facebook update—with hashtags including #newfood, #newchef, and #newmenu—hints at an enhanced food selection.
In addition to offering food and libations, the distillery features live music, rents out its space for events, hosts entertaining activities, and partners with local businesses.
