After 12 years of delighting diners with upscale burgers and sandwiches, Rutledge Cab Company owners Bill Murray, Brad Creger, and Mike Veeck announced the closure of their 1300 Rutledge Ave restaurant at the end of October 2024.
Though the news saddened many locals, the owners hinted at a new chapter for the space: “We look forward to passing the keys to a new tenant and watching from the sidelines as the property’s landlord,” they shared.
Today, the mystery tenant was revealed. According to Jimmy Farrell of the CHS Happenings newsletter, Heavy’s Barburger will relocate from its current Morrison Dr location—where a hotel development is being planned—to the nearby Rutledge Ave space.
This transition isn’t the only big news for Heavy’s this year. A few months ago, the burger joint announced plans to open a second location on Daniel Island. Originally expected to open over the summer, the new outpost has faced construction delays and hasn’t debuted yet.
Heavy’s could begin operations at the Rutledge Ave space “in a few months,” according to CHS Happenings. It’s unclear if the restaurant will temporarily close during the move.
