A popular island sandwich shop, Alvin Ord’s in Port Royal, has been sold to new owners.
Nick Borreggine Jr. and Sr., a father and son duo, have bought the small sandwich operation upon the retirement of its founders, Marie and Tom Lewis, according to a recent report by Island Packet.
The Lewis’ first opened Alvin Ord’s in Beaufort 40 years ago, and moved to their current location on Ribaut Road four years later. Since then, they’ve become a local lunch staple for their bread, baked fresh every morning, and no-frills menu and service.
The staff was retained in the sale, including many employees who have worked at Alvin Ord’s for over 20, and even 30 years.
The Borreggines have known the Lewises for nearly that long, first working together when Borreggine started a catering business in 2001. They’ve remained colleagues in the local hospitality scene as the Borreggines opened several restaurants over the years, including Panini’s, Fat Patties and most recently Shellring Ale Works, a brewery that opened its doors in February 2022.
Alvin Ord’s is open for business as usual, and according to an interview with Island Packet, the Borreggines have no intent on changing that menu.
